7 Things I’m Doing More of in 2016

It is the last week in the year and, as usual, everyone is making resolutions. I am not the a fan of the word resolution. Each year I’ve ever made one, I’ve never accomplished anything. I prefer to use the term goals and create actionable steps to help me achieve my goals.  Minor semantic issue? Yes. But it makes a big difference in the way that I approach the things I want to accomplish. Now that I view these as goals, really #LifeGoals, I am not waiting until 2016 to start working on them. I’m starting now!

I’ve kept my goal list short and sweet and created a nifty digital vision board (above). It is saved as the background on my laptop. So now every time I open my computer to do work, I am reminded of what I need to do.

Without further ado, here are my 2016 goals:

1. Take better care of myself.

This past year, I really neglected myself. I didn’t get enough sleep, didn’t eat healthy, stretched myself too thin and didn’t always make my spiritual health a priority. Starting today, I am going to make myself a priority. I am going to rest (shooting for 6-8 hours every night), eat healthier (more fruits, veggies and water), exercise 30 minutes each day (got a medicine ball for Christmas so I’m already on my way) and spend my mornings in prayer and reading the Bible.

2. Take things one step at a time.

I am a very ambitious person, and sometimes that can get overwhelming. I am always looking forward to how I can accomplish my big dreams, and I get frustrated when I am not where I want to be in my life and professional journey. I am no longer going to stress myself out (refer to goal #1). I’m going to take everything one small step at a time. A famous quote states, “how do you eat an elephant? One bite at a time.” I achieve my BIG dreams the same way, one step at a time. This is exactly what I plan on doing.

3. Start a business.

Being an entrepreneur is one of my #LifeGoals. I’m challenging myself to stop waiting and take the necessary steps to start a business. I plan on blogging all about it, so stay tuned.

4. Sew more.

I love fashion. Like, I take it very seriously. You know how there are science nerds and math geeks? Well, I’m a fashion geek. So it’s only right that I’d be interested in creating fashion. I know my way around a sewing machine, but I want to get better. Who knows, maybe I’ll have a fashion line coming to you in 2017!

5. Read more books.

I love reading, but I get so busy that I never take the time out to do it. Starting now, I’m challenging myself to read at least one book a month.

6. Make more friends (or connections).

I have no idea how I am going to accomplish this because I am such an introvert. But I want to expand beyond my small and comfortable circle of friends. Now that I am starting a business, meeting new people will be very important for the growth and expansion of my future business. I look forward to meeting some great people and making genuine connections in 2016.

7. Blog more.

My goal for 2016, and has been since I started blogging, is to blog at least three times a week. I’m really going to try this time, I promise. And if I don’t, I give you guys permission to tweet me demanding a post. It’s your right!

Thanks for letting me share my goals with you. I hope you all will help keep me accountable!
