At the end of last year, I shared with you all that one of my goals is to start a business. It’s something that I’ve always wanted to do, but just kept putting it off and excusing myself as “not ready yet.” In December, I decided that I was going to do the research and take the steps necessary to start my dream business.
When I made this a goal, I had no idea what I was getting myself into. I naively thought that I was just going to Google How to Start a Business, follow steps 1-2-3 and be done. Boy was I wrong! I just started my business journey and I am already confused and overwhelmed with all of the information that’s out there.
Thankfully, my Google search did yield some results that were decipherable and helpful. I came across the U.S. Small Business Administration website, where I headed straight to the Starting & Managing tab. The SBA site offered information on business plans, licenses, trademarks, taxes and more. While it was all informative, I was still overwhelmed– I’m not familiar with business terms. Clearly, I’m not the only person with this issue because, in the same area, the site also offers information on business mentoring. I learned about SCORE Mentors, Small Business Development Centers and Women’s Business Centers.
I researched further and discovered that SCORE Mentors are FREE.99 and they help you with any step in your business journey.
I signed up for one via the site and had my first meeting this past week. Check out how it went below!
