It’s definitely summer here in Georgia. And by definitely, I mean 98+ degrees. That’s hot!
I don’t know about you, but in the summer it’s easy for me to throw on the lightest and shortest thing I have just to make sure I’m not burning up all day. Then there are those occasions that call for much more effort. Weddings, parties, dinners, all places where I’d like to look nice but I also don’t want to be sweaty and sticky (body con dresses and denim will do that to you).
If you’re like me, here are the two words to remember: cotton and linen. Yup! Cotton and linen are your best friends this season. Cotton is a breathable fabric, meaning it allows air to circulate through out the fabric and absorb moisture (a.k.a. sweat). So you don’t have to worry about being trapped in sweat on those extra hot days. Cotton is also very soft and light, making it comfortable to wear in the heat. The only thing worse than the sun beaming down on you is the sun beaming down on you while your sweat soaked clothes are annoying you. Eww.
Linen, on the other hand, is a stiffer fabric but still perfect for the summer. It’s breathable like cotton, and the stiffness allows more air to flow between the fabric and the skin. Kind of like your personal cooling system. Sounds like a win to me! Now, your homegirl linen does get wrinkly, but if you can move past the carefree look, it’s perfect.
The best part of both of these fabrics is that they are fairly cheap and easy to find.
You may think of linen as outdated and cotton as a little boring, but there are ways to wear both where you can still keep your fly.
